Partridges are a small, diverse group of birds from the Chicken-like order. Partridges belong to the pheasant family, subfamilies partridge and grouse, including more than 22 genera, each of which has from one to 46 subspecies. Thus, the next of kin for some partridges are pheasants and quails, and for others - black grouse and hazel grouses. Despite this genetic heterogeneity, partridge from both families are outwardly similar. Combines their small size and compact build. The average weight of a partridge is from 330 to 900 g. They are sedentary, have an inconspicuous color, and incredible endurance in extreme conditions. Their height reaches 35 cm, partridges lead a terrestrial life, feed on insects and plant food. They prefer to nest on the ground, diligently hiding their houses in the thickets abundant foliage and shrubs. The partridge runs fast. These are family birds, live in flocks, spend the night together. Although the partridge can fly, it rarely
rises into the sky, doing this only when it feels great danger or when it wants to quickly move to the feeding place. Both parents take care of the nest and the offspring.
