In China, in the period from 1821 to 1851, the popularity of the Pekingese reached its most manic height. A person who harmed a dog or stole it was punishable by death. In ancient China, each Pekingese had its own servant who looked after the dog. The puppies were not fed by the mother at all, they were hand-fed with human milk.
