Parrots are amazing creatures, distinguished not only by their bright beauty, but also by their intelligence and ingenuity. The variety of these birds is huge - from a tiny parrot to a giant macaw. The largest parrot in the world is the hyacinth macaw - a very beautiful parrot with bright blue plumage and a distinctive yellow ring around the eyes. In length, some individuals reach 1 meter, while the giants weigh relatively little - 1.5-2 kg. Black cockatoos can hardly compete with them - they reach a size of 60 cm and weigh about 1 kg. But the black cockatoo has the largest, up to 10 cm long, powerful beak - it can easily bite a human finger. Not surprisingly, the word "cockatoo" in translation from Malay means "nippers". The smallest are woodpecker parrots. The body length of an adult is 10 cm, and the body weight is only 10-13 grams. Due to their miniature size, they are almost inaccessible for observation by scientists and, for this reason, have been little studied. They live in New Guinea. Several species of parrots can imitate human speech. So, cockatoo can remember up to four dozen words and several sentences. And some budgies can repeat about 100 words, but they rarely speak in sentences. But the most intelligent and capable of learning is the gray parrot. There are cases when talkers not only learned more than 2000 words, but also pronounced them with different intonation. The budgerigars received the "Speed Parrot" nomination. These birds fly at a speed of 120 km / h, this speed is short-lived and budgerigars use their abilities only while searching for food. They have been living in Australia for over 5 million years; have an auditory range of 400–20,000 hertz; can turn their head 180 degrees. Find a couple once for a lifetime; can live up to 20 years. They have color vision, and in a second they see up to 150 images, which is ten times
more than a person sees. Their colors can be white, blue, green, yellow and gray; an adult parrot weighs about 30 g, and a chick is born weighing only about 2 g. Their heart beats 200 times per minute; they need about 12 hours to sleep. The first Europeans to see parrots were the soldiers of Alexander the Great who invaded Indian territory. Chocolate, salt, avocado, and alcohol are poison for the budgerigar. It is recommended to feed pets with fruits and berries: bananas, apples and pears (pitted), pineapples, kiwi. The pet store has a large assortment of ready-made mixtures, with dried fruits, various nuts and mineral additives.
