The crab is an amazing creature that leads a rather secretive lifestyle. There are over 4500 species of crabs on Earth. Representatives of this
animal species are subdivided into terrestrial and aquatic. Terrestrial individuals are much more agile than aquatic ones, they can move on the ground for enough
long distances. The eyes of crabs are complex and consist of a large number of small lenses. Crabs can only reproduce by
reaching the age of 8-9 years. The shell of the crab does not grow with it, the animals are forced to shed periodically - to shed the old shell and grow
new. In one-year-old crabs, this happens 6 or 7 times, and in adult crabs, once or twice a year. These creatures know how to grow lost parts.
body. Due to predators or a fight with another individual crab
may lose a limb, but soon it will grow back. The teeth of a marine animal are located in the gastric region. Crabs have adapted to life
in almost any conditions: in icy waters off the coast of Antarctica, boiling geysers at the bottom of the ocean, on rocks far from water and even in hollows
trees. Crabs, like fish, receive oxygen from water, but they can stay on land for a long time - the main thing is that their gills do not have time to
dry completely. Crab meat is considered a very healthy and tasty delicacy, containing a large amount of trace elements and vitamins, which
made them tasty prey in many countries. Some of their species are on the verge of extinction, in part due to the destruction of coral reefs,
caused by global warming. The legs span of the Japanese spider crab reaches 4 meters. The smallest crab in the world - pea crab, size
whose body reaches only a few millimeters.
