Christmas is one of the most important Christian holidays. It is customary to attend church to join in prayer and celebrate with others
believers the birth of Jesus Christ. On the eve of Christmas, for hundreds of years, different nations have a wonderful tradition - to put a nativity scene in the house.
The nativity scenes came to us from Italy. According to tradition, after the Day of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary, tinkering begins in homes, churches and squares
presepio (it.) - sculptural scenes depicting the birth of Jesus Christ. The word "presepio" comes from the Latin praesepire (to enclose) or
praesaepium (stall, stable, manger). In Christian perception, this term has received a generalized meaning as the place of the Nativity of Christ. Nativity scene in translation
from Old Church Slavonic - a cave. Therefore, in the Orthodox tradition, it is customary to build a nativity scene in the form of a cave, and Catholics most often
depict a hut, a dwelling of shepherds. The nativity scene is a picture of the Nativity of the baby Jesus: a small cave, in it is a barn, there are three
main figures: Jesus himself, Virgin Mary and Joseph. In addition to them, there are often images of shepherds, magi, angels, as well as animals: bulls, donkeys,
goats, sheep. Small dolls - images of the Infant Christ and the Mother of God, Joseph, angels, shepherds, made with their own hands or bought in a store,
become the protagonists of the most famous gospel story. And the events of two thousand years ago seem to be approaching us. Material and
the way figurines are made in different regions depends on local traditions and is sometimes associated with national crafts. The emergence of the same custom
to reproduce the scene of the Birth of our Lord, which some attribute already to the II century, is traditionally associated with St. Francis of Assisi:
in 1223 he realized the first nativity scene in Greccio - a live performance of the Nativity of Christ.
