Walking along the Atlantic coast, on the beaches, we collect a large number of all kinds of shells. Shells are amazing creatures. They can have different shapes, colors and even patterns - it depends on the glands that the molluscs have. The surface of the sinks can also to be different - rough, smooth, twisted, with stripes, in the form of a fan ... The shell is the external skeleton of mollusks, their fortress, which they themselves build throughout their life. The mollusk grows, and its outer protection is the shell. Layer by layer, the sea dwellers fold the edges its mantle, forming limestone crystals from the salts of sea water. In winter, shellfish grow more slowly than in summer, because of this, seams and convex growth rings are formed on the shell. Along them, like on annual rings on a tree cut, you can calculate the age of the mollusk.
